Independence Day!

Cheers! Joy! It’s our Independence day!

I just came back from a party. An “independence day” party. What seems odd to me is the fact that, while “we” celebrate the 196th day of “our” independence, “we” listen and dance to the rhythm of a music that does not “belong” to “us”.

Well, I don’t like dancing anyway. That’s why I don’t claim my self Independent, yet I wish I was; independent in a social, cultural, civic, ethic or even religious way. I try to become conscious, to let go of the deepest feeling of blind traditions, but I’m still in the process.

Still I know that, without traditions, I wouldn’t be what I am now. There are things that can not be ignored, that need to exist in order for us to live the way we live now, at least, we need to know something to have the confidence that we dislike that something. So we need traditions, in order, just as an example, to communicate…

    Indeed..

Nevermind, we communicate with the tools and signs we own, so feel free to do it in your mother tongue.

I don’t claim myself independent, and yet, nor do I claim myself slave of unconscious traditions. Are we Mexicans even if we dislike that which defines a Mexican? Music, rituals, traditions, religion…

What is a mexican? Just a toponymic? If so, then I am mexican…

Its up to the definition. From the point of view of semantics, politics, the social point of view, the traditional, etc…

Perniciosa… that’s a new word for me hehe… “Pernicioso, sa. adj. Gravemente dañoso y perjudicial”. I don’t know what to think nowadays, I strive to believe in an independence that will come only in time within me, not in the outside.
